Watermelon Agua Fresca Recipe
Recently I visited New Mexico and had my first real margaritas which were amazing, but the most memorable drink was a Cucumber Agua Fresca served in the hotel lounge which I just kept going back for! Cucumber is a hard beverage sell in my house, but this Watermelon Agua Fresca is now in high rotation.
Agua Fresca is Spanish for “fresh water,” and is typically a blend of fruits, flowers, and/or seeds sweetened with sugar to make a thirst-quenching non-alcoholic beverage that is essentially the Mexican equivalent to a glass of lemonade. Every great restaurant or coffee shop has their own version, and it should always be sweetened to taste.
For some reason my daughter is obsessed with always picking out the largest watermelon in the store and even with 5 kids partaking in the eating, we can never finish an entire thing in time. (Not to mention how much fridge space it takes up once we start cutting into it.) This watermelon agua fresca recipe is the perfect way to use up a bit of watermelon and make a delicious and unexpected drink for guests.
I love offering homemade drinks like this to guests rather than a can of soda or water. It has that special “hostess” touch like a cocktail, without the limitations imposed by alcohol.
