This 3-ingredient double chocolate brownies recipe came about at 7pm, when Ella reminded me that I had promised we would bake something that day.

(Isn’t it funny how they forget until right before bedtime?)

3-ingredient Double Chocolate Brownies

I wanted something quick and easy, with just a couple of ingredients and only one bowl. My first suggestion to make peanut butter cookies was shot down, with an insistence that we had to make brownies.

I have never made magic squares before, but I remembered it was basically a dry tray of cookies, with some sweetened condensed milk poured over top. I didn’t have sweetened condensed milk on hand, but I did have evaporated milk, and it worked beautifully!

(We’ve since tried with the sweetened condensed milk, which I would say results in a slightly thicker brownie.)

You can even make this into a 2-ingredient brownie recipe if you omit the chocolate chips – but I don’t know why you’d want to do that!

These 3-ingredient brownies are fudgy and and sweet, and take just 15 minutes from gathering the ingredients to enjoying the final products. They are the perfect treat to whip up for company, or if you forgot to make your contribution to a school bake sale or classroom party.

If you don’t already have chocolate graham crumbs in your cupboard, you can crush up some chocolate cookies, or use plain graham crackers for a 3-ingredient blondie recipe.

We’ve made ours with both chocolate chips and M&Ms now – but you can use nuts or other candies, whatever mix-ins you have on hand!
