This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Duck® Brand for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

I don’t know when I realized that glitter was going to be an inevitable part of being Ella’s mom, but I’ve definitely learned how to embrace the little bits of sparkle all over our home.

When Duck Tape® reached out and asked if we’d like to experiment with their line of glitter-y Duck Tape®, Duck Glitter®, I knew Ella would come up with some fun uses for the tape – but I didn’t expect to come up with my own fun decorating ideas for the holidays!

Easy step-by-step tutorials for this Glitter & Gold Christmas Decor made from Duck Tape - a fun and frugal way to decorate for the holidays

Ella and I love our themed movie nights and special meals, so I thought a Glitter & Gold holiday tablescape would go over really well with her – and it gave me the perfect excuse to play around with our new collection of Duck Tape®.

First up, I made a delicious eggnog cake and customized the cake stand with a simple strip of silver glitter tape, and then used the glitter tape to make a sweet bunting banner to hang ON the cake!

I also made a simple marquee light using a cereal box and some dollar store fairy lights.

Then, of course, I wanted to customize our place settings a bit with a duct tape napkin holder and a Santa-inspired drinking glass.

My favorite thing about these crafting tapes is that they don’t leave gunk or residue when removed, making them the perfect, durable option to add some glitter to our holiday decor without ruining those materials for later use.

Read on to see how I made all of these DIY Glitter & Gold tablescape accents.

How to add a glitter edge to a plain cake stand with duck tape!

1. Glitter-Accented Cake Stand & Bunting Banner

Materials Needed:

  • Cake Stand
  • Duck Glitter® (2 colors)
  • Scissors
  • 2 1ft-lengths of Baking twine or string
  • 2 skewers

Adding the glitter tape to the cake stand was probably the simplest DIY in the bunch, but it makes a real impact and is the perfect way to dress up a plain cake stand, like my industrial-style metal cake pan which is sturdy but not very pretty on it’s own.

I simply added the tape to the edge and trimmed off the excess with scissors.

How to make a quick and easy bunting banner for your cake out of duck tape

To make the bunting banner, I cut a large length of silver glitter tape and cut it down the middle to make two (thinner) long lengths of glitter tape. I cut those strips into 2″ pieces and then repeated with the gold glitter tape.

I took each rectangle and taped it together with the baking twine in the center to form a square flag, with the twine sealed on the top. I placed several on each length of twine before going back and trimming each square into a triangle – forming a bunting banner.

I then tied the baking twine to the skewers and inserted them into the eggnog cake for a cute celebration-style decoration.

2. Glitter Duck Tape Marquee Sign

Materials You Will Need:

  • Clean cereal box
  • Scissors
  • Pack fairy lights (plus batteries)
  • Duck Glitter®
  • Pen
  • Craft knife

Trace your desired shape onto a wide panel of your cereal box.

Cut the shape out carefully and trim the long sides to 1 1/2″ wide (still keeping their original length).

Cover the shape with glitter duck tape, as well as the long lengths of cardboard.

Place some cardboard onto the back of the shape to help “frame” and attach the lengths along the sides of the shape.

Form the long lengths of cardboard along the side of your shape and press the duck tape up to secure the panels in place. Add additional tape anywhere where the cardboard needs more strength.

Next, poke holes in the shape where the lights will go using the craft knife. Poke the lights through the holes, and then secure the battery pack onto the marquee sign.

If you plan to hang your sign, add a hook now.

3. Glitter Snowflake Napkin Holder

Materials Needed for this Craft:

  • Kitchen paper roll
  • White Duck Tape®
  • 4 Glittery snowflake ornaments
  • Hot glue gun plus glue

Cut the paper towel roll into 4 pieces so that it’s smaller than the width of the Duck Tape®.

Cover each piece of roll with the white duct tape, turning the edges into the roll for a smooth edge.

Attach the glitter snowflake ornaments using a dab of hot glue

Repeat with all napkin holders and allow to dry completely before inserting the rolled napkins.

4. Santa Glasses

Materials Needed:

  • 4 glasses
  • Black glitter tape (thin roll)
  • Gold Duck Glitter®
  • Scissors

Place a line of black glitter tape around the middle of each glass to form the “belt.”

Cut a 4″ strip of gold tape and touch the edges together. This will help make a symmetrical belt buckle but the tape will come apart easily.

Cut the shape of your belt buckle using the scissors, and then pull apart and place on the black belt.

Repeat with all of the glasses.

Set the table with a mix of white, gold, silver and neutral-colored accents to allow your DIY Glitter & Gold decor pieces to really pop!

I love how simple this was to put together and how easy the Duck Tape® is to remove from the glasses and cake stand if I decide to try another design on them for the next special family meal. This is a great option to involve the kids – allowing them to decorate their own glasses or plates with the glitter tape without worrying about storage or the cost of one-time use crafts.

We have so many fun craft ideas that we are planning to use the Duck Glitter® for, but I definitely want to bring them out each and every holiday for an easy and affordable way to customize our decor for the occasion.
