This DIY set of Wonder Woman Cuffs is a quick and fun craft for the superhero obsessed child, and can easily be adapted for your child’s favorite superhero!

(Kids who aren’t interested in superheroes can opt for this DIY Princess Jasmine bangle instead.)
DIY Wonder Woman Cuffs, a fun superhero craft for little girls or boys - and an quick DIY costume idea

The princess obsession isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, but this past year we’ve also made room for a Star Wars obsession and a blossoming interest in female action heroes thanks mostly to my brother and Ella’s little cousin.

Ella recently asked for a pair of Wonder Woman bracelets – and I did what I normally do when she asks to buy something, I set out to see if we can make our own first!

I think this is important because it replaces the desire to consume with a desire to create. Fostering that creativity at a young age allows children to feel proud of their handiwork while teaching them that there are alternatives to always fulfilling our desires with purchases.

For this quick and easy craft, we already had everything we needed on hand – yes, even the glitter ducktape. (Life tip: you don’t need to ever buy boring ducktape. Glitter and pretty designs all the way!)

Instead of glitter ducktape you can paint your cardboard tube with glue and sprinkle on the glitter or just use gold paint, but since we had glitter ducktape we opted for that.

After Ella modelled her glittery cuffs to my preschool children they all insisted on making their own – for the Batgirl cuffs, I just printed out an outline of the bat symbol and traced it onto cardboard.

(PS – the cuffs have an interesting, although not necessarily child-friendly history. They were a symbol of the Amazon’s (fictional) enslavement under Hercules and were made by Aphrodite to be indestructible and meant to “balance Amazon strength with loving submission to the positive aims of civilization.”)

Materials to Make Wonder Woman Cuffs

  • Gold glitter duck tape (or gold glitter or gold paint)
  • Red glitter
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Cardboard
  • Cardboard Tube (a paper towel tube works perfectly)

How to Make Wonder Woman Cuffs

Start off by making the red glitter stars.

Draw or trace the shape of two stars onto your cardboard. Cut out the stars.

Apply a light coat of glue all over the front of the star and sprinkle a generous coating of red glitter overtop. Shake off the excess and set aside to dry.

Next, prepare the gold glitter cuffs.

Cut the cardboard tube to the right length for your cuffs.

If using gold glitter ducktape, wrap the ducktape around the paper towel in even rows.

Trim the ducktape and then cut a slit down each cuff for them to easily slid onto forearms.

(If using gold glitter, apply glue all over the outside of the tube and apply a generous coating of gold glitter. Let dry before you cut the slits.)

Once the red glitter stars are dry, attach them with glue to the front of the gold cuffs.

Let the glue dry completely before saving the world!
