We love healthy Halloween snacks for kids, and this banana ghost pop is a spooky snack kids can help make.

Kids Kitchen: Banana ghost pops are a fun and healthy Halloween snack for kids

All of the kids got such a kick out of these treats, and all of them (except for the one year olds) were able to make their own without any help.

I could have had the kids cut up the bananas themselves, but I decided to prep the “pops” component for them this time, cutting bananas in half and inserting a popsicle stick in each half.

I showed the children an example banana ghost pop and gave them each a plate with unsweetened coconut shreds & three chocolate chips.

Making ghost pops as a fun kids' kitchen activity

I made these “Banana Eyeballs” as a variation for the younger children who I wasn’t sure could handle the popsicle stick. The big kids also thought these were really cool and they would look pretty cool “floating” on top of a bowl of pudding or yogurt!

banana eyeballs - a great fine motor baby and toddler snack #kidsinthekitchenI loved how quickly this healthy snack came together, and how easy it was for the preschoolers to do it themselves. Now I just need to figure out fun twists so we can keep making variations of these after Hallowe’en!

For six Hallowe’en Ghost Pops, you will need:

  • 3 bananas, peeled and cut in half
  • 18 chocolate chips (or raisins if you prefer)
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened, shredded coconut
  • 6 popsicle sticks

Place each banana half on a popsicle stick, spread the shredded coconut onto a flat surface and roll the banana through the coconut. Add three chocolate chips to make two eyes and a spooky mouth. Eat and repeat!

This recipe was such a hit, I’ll need to find a spooky ghost story to add to our 10 Favourite Hallowe’en books.

  1. Those are great! I’ve pinned more than once! My son has a milk allergy, but those would be just as good with raisins or cranberries. We’re definitely making these tomorrow for snacks, the kids will be so impressed!
